Happy Solstice friends. Summer is upon us. The days are long, the lake is flat, the garden is fresh, there's fish to be sought, canoes to be paddled, bikes to be ridden, adventures to be had and playing to be done.

Last year on this day, N and i were two days out from welcoming Oskar to the team and subjecting ourselves to the time honoured practice of parenthood. And now, after my first fantastic fathers day and countless days of reflection on being a dad over the last 363 days...i couldn't imagine it any other way.

If you're from Alaska, the Pacific Northwest or are familiar with the show "The Deadliest Catch" than you probably already know about Xtratuf boots. Cork foot bed, supple neoprene, steeltoe optional...these things are the shit! In other words, they are where it's at when it comes to dry comfortable feet in wet environments.

Picked these up via the interwebs for wearing on work related missions and for any wet walk in the woods. Not quite as tall as my LaCrosse Grange boots (which are tough to beat for sloppin through deeper stuff and when grip on uneven ground is a factor), but easily the comfiest steel-toes i've ever worn.

Finally some rain up in this.

Might look oily, but it's so far from the case.

I've refrained from going off about the gulf coast catastrophe and British Petroleum, mostly cause it would just turn into a rant laden with profanity. If you've got clean water; be it fresh or salt, consider it dear.

Early to rise, late to sleep. Here are couple of shots from the last day and bit out on the big lake.

Sunrise out on Black Bay.

Rainbow Smelt; an invasive species to the Great Lakes and a major player in the lake superior food web.

Set to head out from Silver Islet.

Pick a line and ride it. The dry spring has made for some relatively crisp and fast trails. j and k dropping into a rad section. So much fun to be had.
