Took a day off from hunting with a gun and went to a fun local spot (not a zoo or wildlife preserve) with O. to shoot some deer with the camera instead.  Came across this king of bucks who was certainly a willing model.

What a creature!

Hmmm and some tasty pizza from the other night.

So i started this b-log back in the fall of 2007 as some place to throw some photo's out there for others to enjoy, occasionally ramble a bit and just generally keep a log of life & all of the fun & amazing sh!t that goes down it.  It started out very surf & fish oriented and has morphed into a bit of everything.  If you haven't figured out by now, i keep very busy being a dad, loving husband and chief putterer, not to mention having a kickass day job as a fisheries biologist on Lake Superior and a boat load of hobbies.  Some folks like b-logs that are updated with daily content....this one is not.  There was a time when it was, but come on.  I plan to keep making and posting 'art' whether anyone stops by here or not, it's just fun. Anyways, i guess i'm writing this as a way to ring in the sixth year of the fresh aspect. happy buck fever and peace out.

In pursuit of food

Yes we could pursue our "food" at the grocery store, or we could get it from the wilds. More fun, more healthy, and more delicious as far as i'm concerned.

Opening morning of the moose hunt & a solid covering of snow.

Wow. Been a long time since i've sat down at this machine to do anything other than quickly dump what was on the camera's memory card or tune into Eurosports to watch the Tour De France. Anyways, been all around busy, while maintaining the joys of summer. Garden is looking fruitful and the berries are out...although no where to the extent of the last few years. Despite that, N, O and i hauled on them this weekend and Lutsen proved himself as our bear guard.
woot.

This ones been a while coming. Finally finished off my new go to commuter/ all round fun ride. An 18'' Surly Ogre, mostly non stock parts amassed myself or procured through Olympia Cycle and Ski in Winnipeg, including a sweet set of Mavic TN719 29er wheels that they built up for me on XT hubs. Here's a teaser, more specs and detailed shots to follow.

O. checking that all's well with the new rig in the evening light.

Plenty of big changes afoot here at the fresh aspect headquarters.  Actually we moved the headquarters a whole 5 or so blocks ESE towards the lake.  So yeah, between the usual grind, family, running, bikes, moving and so on...time on the interwebs has been limited.

Young hands loving the VW.
In fact he's requested to bring the van to bed several times now....the first time referring to it as his "D Double Van"

Hmmm... a perfect summer IPA....another creation a-la Northern Brewer.  'Chinook IPA', brewed outdoors on my Colman two burner stove in March. Not crazy hopped and super tasty.

Two weeks into running on these Brooks Pure Grit "minimalist" trail shoe and loving them. Light, lots of flex, grippy, and only 4mm heel-toe offset. Fun shoes that replace my Brooks Cascadia 3's, which were awesome, but long overdue for retirement.

Fun small surf after work on friday, although the water was brown from all the blown out rivers, after a week of rain. Watched this flock of late migrating geese fly low over us while we bobbed around catching some little fun ones.

Cleaning stinging nettles and watching Ryder Hesjedal win the Giro d’Italia....although that's not him in this shot.

Some mushrooms on a log. Not sure that you would want to eat these, but fun to look at.

A good day in May. Warm and summer like, but still May. Plenty on the go lately, including some tasty black morels, a couple more steelhead, and good times with family and friends.

Finally took the Neilson Blunt out for a slide. Jetted down for an after work evening session of glassy spring waves. Perfect for the inaugural voyage. Surfed it in its quad form, even though it would have been fun to switch it up to the 8'' single fin. Floaty, responsive, wave magnet. Love it.

I'll admit i didn't spend very much time taking photo's. Hardly any actually. Pretty intent on being in the water. Some good friends, smiling faces and some fun waves.

I was out for a run the night of April 6th when i noticed the full moon just cresting the head of the sleeping giant. UNREAL!...I mean unreal. Of course i kicked it up about three notches and high tailed it for home to grab my camera and the tripod. Unfortunately i didn't run fast enough, as the moon had already made its way well enough up into the night sky that it didn't appear as amazingly huge as it had 20 minutes earlier. A couple snaps anyways.

Doing my rain dance tonight in hopes of some rain and that the rivers will once again flow like they shoudl in the month of April along the Superior northshore. No snaps of any of the chromers as of late, since they have all been caught on short solo missions where i have failed to swing the fish into where i had my pelican case tucked in on the bank.

However, here's a hefty walleye that we sampled, tagged and stuck a radio transmitter in, while at work today.

In pursuit of early steel.

Otherworldly moss. Almost like sea grass moving with ocean currents.

One foot and then another. Great 1.5 hour trail run this morning.
