A good day in May. Warm and summer like, but still May. Plenty on the go lately, including some tasty black morels, a couple more steelhead, and good times with family and friends.

I'll be honest. Throwin down b-log posts during the summer months just aint easy. On the go and enjoying the heat while we've got it. It's August...and us at the fresh aspect headquarters are foraging our little hearts out. And it's dam good.
Some nice redpines

Little hands filling little bellies with blue gold.

Some delectable fungi.

keep on keepin on.

Fish are nice.

Spring smelt fest.

Rummaging through photo's. This one from a foggy spring morning, spent slinging rocks in the river with Oskar.

Spring

A flock of cedar wax wings hung out at the back of the yard this afternoon, swooping down to feed on last years crab apples over at the neighbors. The whole flock probably numbering 30 or more. Along with the robins and the flowing rivers, providing a sure sign that spring is under way.

The precursor to sundays thunder and lighting, was the blast of hail that came through. Largest i've seen in a long time. These would hurt.

Livin

Virtually a week of no posts, so a couple of shots to partially sum up the last week if anything. Some waves out there lately, however ill timing and important fatherly commitments, along with some shifty forecasts have kept me from getting in the water. That said, the satisfaction of going for a walk with N and the little man or getting some good smiles and watching his daily growth brings ample stoke. I'm not going to complain.

The ole b-log has been sitting idle, but my body, mind and shutter have not. Been out on the water, doing what i do and enjoying it. What a beautiful start to September. A short recap to start the week off:

Glassy calm mornings

Blue sky, head off to work

Release a beauty of a lake trout...955mm (or 37.6''for the metrically challenged) and well over 20lbs.

Take in the clouds up side down.

Unexpectedly find a small shwack of chanterelles.

Watch the sun go down as we finish up.

Post script...do note that the chanterelles were NOT found on the same day or location as the release of the magnificent LT. Seriously...how good do you think a day at work could possibly be.

Inland water being pushed around by north winds this afternoon.

Anyone who's spent any time in the woods...especially in northern Canada can relate to this song from 1949. Do turn on the speakers for this one

A little less posting going on up in this family joint these days, for obvious reasons. However, finished up the carving bench, tend to the garden, run with Lutsen and most importantly, doing my part to raise this little man.

Check John's little dude and his new longboard. Second generation lake surfer...pretty much raddness!!!

Wouldn't normally go postin photo's of myself with fish...but Scotty captured these two nicely earlier this week and in good light no less, so props to him.

Nance (39 weeks pregnant) and Scotty chuckin some bugs for pike.
Got to get that kiddo movin somehow.

Finally back into some bike commuting, 20km ride through the country is a nice way to relax at the end of a day...not sure why it took me so long to get my ass back on the steed and commute. Maybe i was afraid, after going from a 10 minute year round commute to the 20km thing, but really at this time of year, it's fast going. When in doubt...do it.

And running...feeling a lot of flow, satisfaction and well being from running dirt...simplicity. All n' all, life is generally very satisfying and about to become even more so.

It for now...peace

Perseverance and Pendleton plaid.

Yep, that's what it's about. Early mornings, long days, nice days, take some pictures, cold hands, smelly hands, wade, cast, break off, re-tie, hook set, burst of adrenaline, fish in hand, take a good look, do it some more.

nice local slab.

Duped, beaten and humbled. That was me the other day, when a wiley fresh hog, straight from the lake took me for a ride, showed its self ever so briefly and subsequently left my hook dangling on a stick projecting from the bank of the river. Long after the fish had vanished, i was sure it was still at the end of my line, hunkered down under the bank. No such luck. As i replayed the scene in my head i realized that the fish had pulled a ninja move worthy of the most ninja-ee ninja on me and proved once again why we pursue these beauty's with such enthusiasm. dam. lovin it.

otherwise nasty low, blowin through this week, which could power up the wave factory out there. new cedar deck is done and smelling nice. fish to chase and a gorgeous spring evenin out there folks.

The black caps and nut hatches were out in full force today; busying about, doing their thing, knowing damned well that spring is here. Even some warblers and a few robins made their presence heard in the woods during the mid day heat. Meanwhile the snow in the bush remains knee deep.
