Finally an update. I'll admit, more time outside than sitting in front of the computer screen dorkin with blogs and photos. It's just that time of year. Still jacked about seeing U2 last sunday in Winnipeg. That was quite the show to share. Rock stars or not, their music has resonated with me since i was a kid and continues to give me the shivers..particularly live. hell yeah!

A flock of cedar wax wings hung out at the back of the yard this afternoon, swooping down to feed on last years crab apples over at the neighbors. The whole flock probably numbering 30 or more. Along with the robins and the flowing rivers, providing a sure sign that spring is under way.

The precursor to sundays thunder and lighting, was the blast of hail that came through. Largest i've seen in a long time. These would hurt.

hmm. been a few days. warm weather, no rain and very little water in the rivers. At this point we need some serious April showers to ease the situation. Perhaps mother nature will pull through and balance out this abnormally dry year. Surf to be had for those who are on it. Finished some more carving projects lately and plugging away at tying up some new flies.
A couple from the last few days.

Off to the Sleeping Giant Loppet early Saturday morning. Warm and spring like, kind of bizarre. Pretty sure the temperature at the start line was hovering around 0C just before 10AM and well over 10C by mid day. Lot's of kids, families and smiling faces. Fast skis for the first bit, but progressively softening snow over the course of the race, made for a bit of slog by the end. Not as fast going as last year, that's for sure. Definitely felt the burn of not having the most restful sleep the night before. Oh, well. Dig deep, ski hard. Work all those muscles, bones and tendons to the fullest and feel good.

The magical white crow. Not that you can tell that it's body is white in this photo, but it is. He or she is nesting in the neighborhood, as N saw it on Friday and we saw it again today on a morning walk. The goal now is to sleuth it out and capture it with the big lens.

The black caps and nut hatches were out in full force today; busying about, doing their thing, knowing damned well that spring is here. Even some warblers and a few robins made their presence heard in the woods during the mid day heat. Meanwhile the snow in the bush remains knee deep.

Here's the surf report: NO SURF...and ice, lots of ice (See Figure 1). 18 days and counting since last in the water. Now would be a good time to be heading to Costa Rica. Life on a lake in Canada, no big surprise.
Figure 1. A very frozen Lake Superior.

On the other hand we'd be missing out on some killer ski conditions and the warm winter sun of March. Here are some shots from a weekend spent outside.
