Another shot from where i left off in my last post

Sparking the smokehouse loaded with fresh Lake Superior Cisco in December.

Lake Superior Cisco caviar

Heavy hauls with this guy and my dad on one of the coldest days of the winter

A lot of these kind of commutes

My wax technicians hard at work. A very typical weekend morning here.

Headed down to the stadium for the Kamview Jackrabbit Sprints

Sleeping Giant 8km Mini Loppet with the whole family...K riding on my back.  Warm sun and beautiful fresh snow.  Winter time perfection.

So long winter.

It may have been one of the longest and coldest winters in a long time; yet i can't say that i mind.  Something about embracing it, that makes it all that much better.

Here is but a snippet of what went down.

O. becoming very proficient on the xc skis by the end of the season.

A few brutal cold outings to ice some fish on the big lake.

 Clear skies and boreal landscapes.

Successful harvest and fun times

American Goldfinch (Carduelis tristis) visiting our yard the last couple of days.  This and the flowing rivers being proof that spring is finally here.

A look at the new backyard smokehouse that i built out of tongue n'groove pine just before Christmas to handle 50 Lake Superior Cisco. The big Chief wasn't going to hack it and my usual Christmas fish smoking accomplice had moved to Newfoundland. So i was left with few options. This option turned out amazing.

Smoked cisco after 8hrs in the house.

I'll say it once.  It's been a cold winter so far.  Just the way we like it of course.

A nice buck that i came across late in December

Jigging rainbows

Back to logging some good winter miles, mostly via the daily commute.  Nothing like the feeling of  -35C to make you want to pedal hard.

Drippin some wax.  As a friend said today.  "Those trails aren't going to ski themselves Eric".

Stopped to snap a couple of the boys surfing a fun wave, en-route to Ashland, WI last week for work.  What a gorgeous afternoon.  Downright balmy for January.  Not the case this week however.  Back to more normal January weather for northwestern Ontario.

peace and happy new year all.

After a winter of pretty thin, but adequate snow conditions..we finally got thrashed by a quality Alberta clipper today & this evening. Barring a heat wave, this should help in keeping us skiing right through March. Had a fun time playin outside after dinner with O and N. Quality.

Crankset...check.
The Surly- 'Mr.Whirly'crankset that will go on the Surly Ogre..when it arrives in April.

Snow was coming down in big flakes and the conditions were rocket.

Five of seven or eight chariots lined up on a sunday morning at Kamview. We dig winter.

To those in the northern hemisphere...
Happy Winter Solstice.

Short days and long nights, but plenty of goodness to be had in this season. Get out there and find a way to enjoy it.

A neighborhood friend stopping by for a snack.

More with the waves. I can't help myself. Haven't surfed nearly enough this fall.

Good times and good eats. Loggin days in the woods chasing down large critters with good friends.

Home away from home last week.

be well

A healthy amount of nordic these days. Other than Lutsen, my Boykin spaniel, up ahead, tearing the hell out of the dog trail, it was immaculate when i set out sunday morning. groomed to perfection.

Longer days and warmer sun, but still plenty of skiing left in the season.
Sorry for the lull in posting. Life beyond the interweb happens.

Our man Danny has been over in Iceland going to school and liven the life. He's sent me a few snaps so far, all of which are amazing; but when today's email came with the subject line 'Somethin Special', he wasn't kidding. These made my day.

breath taking view at around 66 degrees northern latitude.

This Rules!
thanks Danny
