The Fresh Aspect. Alive and well.  Still on the Interwebs, after all these years.

Another shot from where i left off in my last post

Sparking the smokehouse loaded with fresh Lake Superior Cisco in December.

Lake Superior Cisco caviar

Heavy hauls with this guy and my dad on one of the coldest days of the winter

A lot of these kind of commutes

My wax technicians hard at work. A very typical weekend morning here.

Headed down to the stadium for the Kamview Jackrabbit Sprints

Sleeping Giant 8km Mini Loppet with the whole family...K riding on my back.  Warm sun and beautiful fresh snow.  Winter time perfection.

Latest spring we've seen in many years, but things have started to move along now.

Chromers abound.

This ones been a while coming. Finally finished off my new go to commuter/ all round fun ride. An 18'' Surly Ogre, mostly non stock parts amassed myself or procured through Olympia Cycle and Ski in Winnipeg, including a sweet set of Mavic TN719 29er wheels that they built up for me on XT hubs. Here's a teaser, more specs and detailed shots to follow.

O. checking that all's well with the new rig in the evening light.

The Black IPA...hoppy, roasty and BLACK. Another success..a la
Northern Brewer.

This ones from a few weeks back now. O and Grandpa sliding. Pretty proud and amazed by O's (2 1/2 years old) agility and coordination on two planks.

The 35th Sleeping Giant Loppet was a blast as usual. Though colder and blusteryer (i don't think that's word) than normal. Lots of smiling faces and determination. Snapped this one just before the start of the 50km race. Didn't really mean to get this dude front and center...but he's got a great getup on and is clearly excited to go ski for 3+ hours.

Snagged this one from a link on the Loppet website. Taken by Jon Nelson somewhere along the first couple of kilometers of the course.

Despite the two week hiatus from skiing in mid february because of being sick and having way more 'classic' days than skate this winter, i still had a decent ski in the 50km Sleeping Giant Loppet on the weekend. Not my best time, but personally a very satisfying ski. Thoroughly spent on a beauty of a day.

Photo's are limited since i was more focused on pushin my self than pushin the shutter on the point and shoot.

The scene.

Somewhere between kilometer 25 and 35. Feeling energetic and coordinated enough to capture some action in the sun while on the move.

More info and stuff if you clicky here: Sleepy Giant Loppet

Still lot's of skiing left in the season.

Note to self: 'self, more training for next year'.

peace out

A healthy amount of nordic these days. Other than Lutsen, my Boykin spaniel, up ahead, tearing the hell out of the dog trail, it was immaculate when i set out sunday morning. groomed to perfection.

Longer days and warmer sun, but still plenty of skiing left in the season.
Sorry for the lull in posting. Life beyond the interweb happens.

be well

Spring work weekend down at the shack in the northwoods (clearcuts in this particular scene) of Minnesota.

Badass Boykin Bonanza
Lutsen and Stella with unlimited energy and infested with a couple hundred wood ticks each.

Pugsley cowboys.

All and all "Un morceau de gâteau !"

Have i mentioned how depressing the steelhead season has been thus far. Goodgawd do we need water.

Boreal Birch Syrup

Check this fun vid from Boreal Birch Syrup of Thunder Bay, owned and operated by Dave Challen and Beth Kuiper. They make some mean syrup.

Saturday, December 19, 2009

A local vantage point out to the bay where a ship waits to head out
amidst a blanket of steam rising off the water. Winter is here and doodz are fishing inland lakes on something like 12'' of frozen water.

Otherwise, i have recently become re-obsessed with Phish. Their music has never left my ever expanding musical library per say, but after acquiring the recordings from Phish Festival 8 in Indio, California October 30, 2009, i was reminded why i was and still am, so obsessed with them. Anyways, this lengthy jam from 1999 is proof of their awesomeness. Watch it (larger is better), listen to it (louder), dance to it,or play it in the background while you do your other interwebing...whatever.

Excuse the gratuitous backyard baby longboard session, but it was just a matter of time. With September looming, one thing is for certain, waves are on there way around here. So are young little, second generation lake surfers.

Here, Oskar is like.."hey dad, remember, head and chest up while paddling out, just like this".

Lack of posts the last little while, mostly due to the fact that we have been keeping busy round the headquarters, with visitors, everyday life and some essential home fixit projects that need to be completed prior to the fall season. More to come though. Check yeah later.
