Long weekend in northern Minnesota.
Always enjoyable.

N. slayin the Pugsley

Lutsen tearing it up.

Into some cool morning pedals cross town and daily doses of fresh tomatoes that just keep coming with the warm daytime sun.

Early to rise, late to sleep. Here are couple of shots from the last day and bit out on the big lake.

Sunrise out on Black Bay.

Rainbow Smelt; an invasive species to the Great Lakes and a major player in the lake superior food web.

Set to head out from Silver Islet.

Loaded up on friday & cruised down the shore in search of some waves...mostly burlyish beach break due to another odd fetch to wind direction and speed ratio. Got a few rides and took some beatings courtesy of the lake before loading back up and continuing on my way down to hunt the northwoods of Minnesota.

A beautiful November morning on the drive down the shore.

And so it goes, we wait and prepare all year to gather during the second week of November for what we call the "Holy Days". I'm sure someone might slam me for calling it that, but there is so much legacy, time, patience, reverence and effort put into our deer hunt, that calling it anything less would be inappropriate.

Just a picturesque sunset the night before opening morning.

Straight up, old fashion wool.

Frosty morning.

Park the ATV's, there are Surly Pugsley's and regular ole mtb's in camp.

Just another northwoods adventure folks

A remarkable prairie sky and passing snow squalls on thanksgiving evening a couple weeks back.

some good stuff.

Grab the wheels, time for a Monday night ride in the woods. The skies were looking black and menacing, but somehow we didn't seem to care. We weren’t so much disregarding the fact that it was about to pour; as we were not wanting to let a little rain stand in our way of some fun. Needless to say it was a wet and soggy mess. Fun, but a mess.

Rule of thumb: when in doubt, GO.

Didn't have the waterproof Olympus along, otherwise i would have had some good shots, pre, during and post down-pour on our ride. Definitely some nice light coming through the soaked and humid forest after things moved on.

And, always a nice monday surprise to find the latest SBC Surf on your doorstep at the end of the day. Plenty of great stories and photos, worthy of some quality mind surfing time. Especially if your in the summer doldrums like here and haven't had any surf in a long while.

Surf or no surf, a gorgeous summer evening is something you
can't argue with.

The weekend...eat, ski, eat, ski, eat, merriment, dominoes, sleep, repeat.

Some of the best weather yet this winter. Stopped on my way home, just as the sun was setting along the northshore to capture the purple and orange sky over what little open water there is out there on the lake.

Holy shmoly, coming up on 2009 quickly now. I hope everyone is having some festivus with friends and or family these days and getting some surf in, or making some snowy turns or glidin through the woods on skis. Whatever it is you do for fun, be sure to get out there and do it. Fantastically fine winter weather going on out there is all i got to say and maybe some waves to ring in the new year later this week.

Don't ask why i chose to post a late summer sunset, instead of some ice encrusted something or other. Looks warm i guess.

Sun goes down- 2007.

Happy New Years!!
